Common Error In English : ASK

- He asked her a glass of water. (X)

- He asked her for a glass of water. (V)

ask (someone) for (something) = ask to be given something
- I asked to the man if he knew the way to the airport. (X)

- I asked the man if he knew the way to the airport. (V)

ask someone something, without TO
- He asked for watching television. (X)

- He ask if he could watch television.(V)

use ASK + IF clause when reporting a request.

(gunakan ASK + IF ketika melaporkan suatu permintaan.)

- She asked me what was the time.(X)

- She asked me what the time was. (V)

when the object of the sentence is a WH-clause, the subject and the verb in WH-clause do not change places.

(ketika obyek dari kalimat adalah WH, subyeknya dan kata kerja dalam anak kalimat WH tidak berubah tempat).
